Dead Stock Alerter · Last updated: April 2026
Dead Stock Alerter ("we", "our", "the app") is a Shopify application that helps merchants identify and action dead and slow-moving inventory. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.
Data we collect
When you install Dead Stock Alerter, we access the following data from your Shopify store via the Shopify API:
- Products and variants — titles, SKUs, prices, stock levels, and inventory item IDs
- Order line items — product IDs, variant IDs, quantities, and order dates (used to calculate sales velocity). We do not access customer names, email addresses, shipping addresses, or any other personally identifiable customer information.
- Store owner email — collected during OAuth install, used only to send you inventory digest emails
Data we store
We store the following in our database:
- Your store domain and access token (required to scan your inventory)
- Aggregated inventory snapshots — stock levels, velocity scores, and status per variant. No customer data is stored.
- Your alert email address and notification preferences
Inventory snapshots older than 90 days are automatically deleted.
Data we do not collect
We never access, store, or process customer names, email addresses, phone numbers, shipping addresses, payment information, or any other personally identifiable information about your customers.
How we use your data
- To scan your inventory and calculate velocity scores
- To display your inventory health dashboard
- To send you weekly email digests (Pro plan only, configurable)
We do not sell, share, or rent your data to any third party.
Data retention and deletion
When you uninstall Dead Stock Alerter, we mark your store as uninstalled and stop scanning. Upon receiving a shop redaction webhook from Shopify (typically 48 hours after uninstall), all store data including inventory snapshots and your store record are permanently deleted from our database.
Third-party services
- Railway — our backend infrastructure. Data is stored in a PostgreSQL database hosted on Railway.
- Resend — used to deliver email digests to your alert email address.
